I would like to take a moment to introduce our school to you. My name is Katherine Miller and I am the Principal at Desert Heights Charter School located in Glendale, Arizona. Desert Heights is a small K-4 charter elementary school which also has a preschool program. Our leadership and staff believe strongly in working collaboratively with parents to promote a positive educational experience for each and every child. Consequently, Desert Heights has become known in the educational community as a school that “feels like family”.
One of our many assets as a small charter school is our ability to create an environment that is safe, community oriented, and family friendly. We are always hosting special events to acknowledge our families and we highly encourage parent participation in a variety of ways including asking parents to volunteer within the community. Our campus is always open to parents and this inviting atmosphere continues on at our Preparatory Campus for 5th through 12th grade students.
Below you will find a few of the activities that we sponsor throughout the year as a small way of fostering a sense of community for our families:
- Kindergarten Tea for Mother’s Day
- Goodies for Grandparents
- Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon
- Annual Fall Festival
- Community Movie Night
- Family Field Day
- Read Across America
- Red Ribbon Week
- Musical Performances
- Ice Cream Socials
- Family Restaurant Nights
- Monthly Flag Raising Ceremonies
- Quarterly Award Ceremonies
- Art Show
- Book Fair
- Daddy/Daughter Dance
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. We truly believe that once you visit our campus and get to know our faculty, we think you will agree that we hire the best. I highly encourage you to come by and visit with me, or observe our teachers and students in action. If you would like to get involved, or if you just want to learn more about our comprehensive educational philosophy that emphasizes quality instruction by Highly Qualified Teachers, a safe, orderly learning environment and a very challenging curriculum, please call me at (602) 896-2900.
